512 MILLENNIUM S ince 1978, Nancy Wang has aided those in her community with health and preventative methods. Dr. Wang grew up working in the field of genetics and has continued to progress from one branch of genetics to another, moving from animal, human and currently cancer research. She began her career as an instructor for the department of pathology and laboratory at the University of Minnesota Medical School. She quickly made headway, gaining numerous teaching positions, including assistant professor, associate professor and professor for Tulane University School of Medicine and the University of Rochester. Dr. Lang is very interested in the genetic development, evolution and selection of cancer. Though she has reached many accomplishments throughout the length of career, her greatest achievement to date has been her ability to identify the ovarian cancer suppressive gene while working with a student. Looking to the future, she would like to look back and do a summarization of all her research and fill in the gaps in her research. Dr. Wang remains an active member of the American Society of Human Genetics. A fter her father passed away when she was 3 years old, Marcia Weiner’s mother taught her to make the world a better place. Judge Weiner attended St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, Texas, where she initially majored in teaching as an undergraduate, but she later decided to major in law, obtaining a Bachelor of Arts and a Doctor of Jurisprudence in 1965 and 1970, respectively. After graduating, she was admitted to the Texas State Bar in 1971, when she began working as an attorney advisor for the Department of Housing and Urban Development. She remained with the agency for 26 years and was promoted to chief counsel, a position she held from 1984 to 1997, before being elected to the Bexar County Justice of Peace, Precinct 2 in 2000. The highlight of Judge Weiner’s career is having served on the bench long enough to see results. Rather than collect fines, she placed children in counseling and provided meaningful community service opportunities while also working to help mothers. She remains active in her efforts to make the world a better place.
