83 A Marquis Who's Who Magazine D r. Graciela Chichilnisky has over four decades of experience as a mathematical economist. Formerly the Sir Louis Mathesou distinguished professor at Monash University, Dr. Chichilnisky has taught in the U.S. and abroad during her career. From 1974 to 1978, she held positions at Harvard University as a postdoctoral fellow, lecturer in the department of economics, and fellow of the Harvard Institute for International Development. At Columbia University, where she has taught since 1995, she has served as an associate professor, director of the program on information and resources, director of the Columbia Center for Risk Management, and chair of the United Nations Educational and Cultural Organization. Outside of her experience in the academic setting, Dr. Chichilnisky was an advisor to the United Nations Association, advisor to President Óscar Arias in Costa Rica, and senior advisor to the president of the University of Arizona. In addition to holding membership in the American Renewable Energy Institute and the National Women’s Studies Association, she is the CEO and co-founder of Global Thermostat, a company using patented technology to transform carbon dioxide into usable resources. She has written more than 10 books, co-authored “Catastrophe or New Society? A Latin American World Model,” contributed articles to professional journals, and served on numerous editorial boards. Throughout her career, Dr. Chichilnisky has been recognized for her work in the field, both nationally and internationally. She is the recipient of the International Relations Award from the Rockefeller Foundation, was honored as Most Distinguished Economist by the Newcombe Foundation and Omega Delta Epsilon, and named One of 10 Most Influential Latinos in the United States by Hispanic Business. She holds a Master of Arts, a PhD in math, and a PhD in economics from the University of California, Berkeley.
